Comparison
How HiveCatcher compares
There is more than one way to reach the systems you service. Here is how HiveCatcher sits beside a fully managed 4G/5G remote access service and an OT SASE platform, on the things that decide a roll-out.
Side by side
Competitor columns are drawn from their public material and are kept neutral. Where they do not publish something, it is marked as not published rather than guessed.
| HiveCatcher | Spitfire | Neeve (OT SASE) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Software for remote access to the systems you service. Install it on hardware you own. | A fully managed 4G/5G remote access service, provided with the hardware and SIM. | An OT SASE platform: Zero Trust remote access, segmentation, device discovery and edge apps. |
| Hardware | Hardware-agnostic: any Linux box you or your vendor already use (x86_64, arm64, arm), or our OEM box. | Teltonika 4G/5G routers, supplied preconfigured. | A supplied appliance (Secure Edge), an LTE model, or a no-hardware option. |
| Install | One line to install. One agent, no dependencies, no VPN project. | Devices arrive ready to deploy, with no on-site configuration. | Platform and appliance deployment, aligned to IT process. |
| The connection | Our managed cellular (one SIM that roams AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile), or your own internet or SIM. | A Spitfire SIM on Spitfire's private core network. | LTE available on the Secure Link model; other models rely on your network. |
| VPN model | Outbound-only WireGuard, on demand, with each client isolated to its own device. | IPsec via FortiClient, back to Spitfire's core. | Zero Trust (ZTNA); Neeve positions itself as a move away from VPNs. |
| Software on the technician's machine | None. A browser terminal, so nothing to install or manage. | FortiClient VPN preset on the access device. | Browser or platform; no per-endpoint agent for access. |
| Multiple technicians, many sites | Organizations, roles and per-device access grants; easy to reach thousands of sites. | Managed per deployment; a named account manager. | Role-based policy for vendors and technicians at enterprise scale. |
| Access control | Users, organizations and roles, explicit per-device grants, and peer isolation by default. | Managed by the provider; access tied to the tunnel. | MFA, least privilege, role-based and temporary access, segmentation. |
| Device discovery / OT inventory | Not our focus. We provide access, not a discovery or threat platform. | Not offered; a connectivity and access service. | Built in: continuous scanning, device catalog, change detection. |
| Threat detection | Out of scope; we keep the access path itself small and closed. | Not offered. | Packet sampling and threat intelligence with dashboards. |
| Certifications | Security-first architecture (see our white paper); formal audits on the roadmap. | Not published in the material we reviewed. | SOC 2 Type 2, ISO/IEC 27001, and third-party penetration testing. |
| Bring your own SIM or Ethernet | Yes. Use our cellular, your own SIM, or the site's internet. | No; uses Spitfire's SIM and core. | Platform dependent; LTE is a specific model. |
| Getting started | Self-service: create an account, enter the code printed on the box, pick a plan. | Ordered and provisioned by the provider. | Enterprise sales and deployment. |
| Pricing | Transparent and low: from $17.99 per device per month (Connect) and $28.80 (Cellular Connect); SIM only from $19. | Managed contract; published terms start at 3-month minimum. | Enterprise; quote based. |
Where HiveCatcher wins
Your hardware, not a lock-in
Run HiveCatcher on hardware you own, hardware from a vendor you trust, or the system itself. You are not tied to one router maker or one connectivity provider.
A connection that is included, or your own
Cellular Connect includes a multi-carrier SIM that roams the major networks, so one outage does not end your access. Prefer your own internet or SIM? Connect runs the same way.
No client software, no VPN project
Outbound-only WireGuard and a browser terminal mean nothing to open on the network and nothing to install on a technician's laptop.
Isolation by default
Each client reaches only the device it is entitled to, not the building network. Access is per device, per person, and follows the device on transfer when you say so.
Self-service and simple
Create an account, enter the code printed on the box, choose a plan. No provisioning wait, no per-site setup, and pricing you can see.
Built for the hands-on work
Reach the equipment and open a shell in your browser. Fix it like you are standing in the mechanical room, without a truck roll.
Different jobs, honestly stated
HiveCatcher is not an OT SASE platform, and we do not pretend to be one. If you need certified device discovery, packet-level threat intelligence, or an audited enterprise governance program, a platform like Neeve is built for that. HiveCatcher is for the common case: getting a competent technician safely into the equipment, on any hardware, at a price that makes sense for every site.
And where a managed service depends on the provider's own core network, HiveCatcher does not: it runs over our cellular, your internet, or your own SIM, and it installs on hardware you already have.
